Marcel van den Berg
Trained at the Willem de Koning Academy, and a former resident of the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Marcel van den Berg (NL, 1978) nonetheless turns his attention away from academic fine arts and towards the aesthetics of graffiti and street culture as a guide to his work. His work is strongly influenced by funk, soul, hip hop, reggae, electro and techno music. The often political messages in the music are transformed in strong visual elements and given a new context while the meaning stays the same.
His work depicts a rhythm or intensity rather than an image per se.
