Jessica van Rüschen
Jessica van Rüschen (1976) is a performer and visual artist from Germany based in the Netherlands. Her work explores various forms of expression within physical bodies.
After graduation from high school she studied at the University of Music and Dance in Rotterdam and danced professionally for twenty years. She has worked and performed internationally with a wide range of choreographers like Felix Landerer (Landerer&Company), Itzik Galili (NND Galili Dance), Piet Rogie (Rogie&Company), SALLY Maastricht, Stephen Shropshire, Vera Sander, Jens van Daele and others and as a member of the dance theatre company for Staatstheater Oldenburg and Stadttheater Heidelberg. Van Rüschen initiated her choreographic work in 2013 and created various productions under the support of Dansateliers Rotterdam and Landerer&Company. Next to her dancing career van Rüschen build her own company for video productions (JessundDu) in the area of dance and art.
Combining a study of cinematography with a continuous exploration of physical expression she aims to create work that resonates with personal and cultural issues. Ignorance and wilful blindness, the perception of cognitive dissonance play a prominent role in her current work.
