Femke Herregraven

Femke Herregraven is an artist whose work explores the effects of abstract value systems on ecosystems, language, historiography, and daily life. Her research into the interaction between financial markets, risks, and the physical world forms the foundation for her iterative sculptures, drawings, films, simulations, and hybrid installations. Her work employs multiple textual, computational, and gestural languages, expressed through image, sound, drawing, and speculative fiction, to reflect on how these contemporary future models shape the experience of reality and the very ground on which it stands.
 

Her work was exhibited at Centre Pompidou, Swiss Institute Milano, Victoria & Albert Museum, Hessel Museum, Nam June Paik Art Center, Tallinn Art Hall, Riga Biennial, Westfalischer Kunstverein, Guangzhou Triennial 6, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Gropius Bau, Taipei Biennial, Gwangju Biennial, Talbot Rice Gallery, Kunstverein in Hamburg, Art Encounters Biennial, Centre Pompidou-Metz, Nottingham Contemporary, BAK, Z33, Lubumbashi Biennial, Reina Sofia, Seoul Mediacity Biennial, Kunsthall Trondheim, State of Concept, Kunstraum Vienna, Van Abbemuseum, amongst others.

She studied graphic design at ArtEZ Arnhem, and is an alumnus of the Rijksakademie. In 2024, she was awarded the Evans Art Prize and the Theodora Niemeijer Prize in 2025.
