In this project students looked at representation and auto-representation, at ways of collaborating, and ways of studying and representing place, specifically rooted in documentary film.
Starting with anthropological films and moving towards more participatory and collaborative ones, students talked and discussed ethical and practical questions, different attitudes and conditions within representation.
During the project, by working through open ended exercises to think together, the students presented their own proposals that question notions of othering, ethics of engagement, framing, narrative, and experiments with method and critical discussion.
