Rob Zevert

Groot Zevert is both managing and creative director of OMSTAND - space for contemporary art, Arnhem. An art space for contemporary art, without a art collection, but with its own showrooms in and around a former electricity plant on the Van Oldenbarneveldtstraat, near the city center of Arnhem. Groot Zevert mainly produces exhibitions and therefore collaborates a lot with artists and curators. The exhibitions he is organizing generally take place in informal places, places and spaces that are in a state of decay. Raw places that have fallen into disuse and are being revitalized: An old factory, a former military site, a disused pedestrian passage of a parking lot. Because the conditions in such places resembles those of a workspace, the participants often feel that more is possible than simply showing work. Groot Zevert always tries to reinforce and support that notion.

Groot Zevert has a background in visual arts and studied at the Academy of Arts in Arnhem, now called ArtEZ (dipl.1991). He has a broad scope, besides being a visual artist, he is a curator, designer, organizer, producer, teacher and advisor of visual arts and visual art projects. Groot Zevert also produces works of art, applied art, installations and ceramics on his own. Among other things, he is known for the DEER on the hill near the Velperbroekcircuit, along the highway A12, wich came along in collaboration with artist collective G.A.N.G.

Groot Zevert is very active in the Arnhem cultural field and beyond, organizing cultural projects in special places at home and abroad. He was founder and initiator of artist collective G.A.N.G. (2000 to 2014), Showroom G.A.N.G. (2006-2009) which later became Showroom Arnhem (2009 - 2020), Woeste Gronden at Buitenplaats Koningsweg in Arnhem (2012 - 2014) which then became further known as 'Code Rood' and right now of Omstand (from 2015 to the present date).
