Sjors Bindels
Life is bad from here forward or everything is amazing forever: this doesn’t mean, that we can start of from a blank, horizontal, democratic, non-linear, autonomous, socratic perspective, that’s silly. Meeting 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 will be performative meetings, circulating around speculative thought, nonsense, fiction, science, movement and a curatorial sauce to bind it all together in one shared composition. Its all about inhabiting the question differently, you know what I mean?

Matthieu Reijnoudt
Walking, walking away from your problems has a value on its own. The power of ‘not doing’. ‘let’s go bowling’

Lars Vonk
This abstract figure is my reality. This blur is my life. This person is my sensation.

Robin Preusterink
Art or craft, that is the question. To collect or to research, it is neither, it is both. To question or to create, that is simple, it is the same.

Inge Doornbos
I am not my name, nor age, nor gender. I am glad to meet you.

Esmee van den Akker
The self is flexible, it has no true fixed form. I am becoming, I am different matters.

Iris Immink
Roots run deep. Blood is thicker than water. All this searching, searching and not finding. Maybe searching is finding.

Domas van Wijk
Things can live different lives. Identity is fluent. Everything moves. Art is not about the thing, the creative is about the relationships.

Carmel Klop
Carmel’s Paradise. Anyplace, anywhere, anytime.
Carmel’s Paradise. Where everything is fun!

Sarah Damminga
What if? What if I don’t pretend to be better than I am? If I talk about the things that are forbidden? What if I showed you ecstasy?

Zoey Lundgren
Some interactions between the body and a thing are impossible. But I can draw it. These lines can take everything. From there it starts. From there it moves.

Vien Slotema
Sunrise, sunset, sunrise, sunset, swiftly flow the days. Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers, blossoming even as we gaze.

Sanne Tijsma
‘Evil is above all things, seductive. When the devil knocks at your door, he doesn’t have cloven hooves. He is beautiful, and offers you your heart’s desire in whispered airs. Like a siren, beckoning you to ruinous shore.’

Chataine Moekardanoe
‘Stage Vivant’ speaks about the depths of re-materialized sculptures put into drawings. Drawings can be read again and again, every time differently. The aliveness of their objective form soak fluently into our imagination. Our bodies move them, speak with them in relation to time and space.

Fabienne Balvers
Pleased to meet you, I can disrupt your company, if you like. To innovate is not always about taking the next step. Please let me dig a bit, to get to the core.

Jesse Brinkerhof
Hail Homo habilis, and all products of the not so holy trinity of replication, variation and selection.

Kevin ten Thij
We make the system, we work the system, we improve the system, we fight the system, we are excluded from the system, we escape the system, we are the system.

Laila Zuethoff
‘Hello, this is Laila Zuethoff speaking, is this the clinical department in Deventer? I’ve got a question about a person who might possibly be in your residence. I’m looking for her.’

Leroy Verbeet
Through you I see me. Through you I remember me. Through you I preserve me. Through you I love me. You are so beautiful.

Mariël Smit
Dead-serious nonsense, served with love on a bed of professional amateurism. Pirouettes followed by a cry from the heart.

Maud van Dijk

Mirelle Versteeg
Welcome to the institutional dinner, come join this meal of exhibitions, take a bite of this delicious gallery, and drink a sip of curator juice. Welcome to this domestic house of art.

Nina Meijer
In the midst of an uncomfortable, absurd situation, great comfort can be found. I glory in the sadness, the loneliness and the obstinate anger.

Quint Edeling
It lasts and travels. It impresses and expresses. It embraces and shocks. It hurts and heals.

Rixt Meeuwissen
I tried to save you, but arguments had no power. Now I learned to just quietly love you, and you are forever here.

Robin Kersten
"Another story: going back to Valencia to look for him. He said no. Maybe the only privacy he has, is to say no."

Valentina Gal
Gently soothe me, touch me with your healing hand, fill my life with peace. See how through these eyes my inner light shines to reach deep into your heart.

BASE FOR EXPERIMENT, ART AND RESEARCH (FINE ART ARNHEM)
BEAR FINALS 2017
A LOVE STORY

This is a story about love. It is not your average boy meets girl scenario – don’t worry. The love we talk about is about you, about the world and the future.

The graduate students of Base for Experiment, Art and Research (BEAR)(Bachelor Fine Art Arnhem) ArtEZ chose the title a love story, because they stand for art that refuses to double misery or to present itself as mere critique. They do not work from the negative, nor from conflict. Without restraint or cynicism, they present their work with heart and soul. A love story celebrates questions and observes the world with an open view.  But be aware, these graduates are not naïve! They are affirmative artists, willing to present unpredictable alternatives by opening up issues and inflicting discomfort.

We, at BEAR, care a great deal about a love that involves risk taking. We are like family. For us a good vibe is more important than a finished object, problematizing more interesting than criticizing. We care for listening more than talking. We care for our group more than our egos. We know that the potential for failure can be effective and are aware of the power of not knowing.

We are convinced that life is a process not a series of separate events. We take the challenge of thinking about the inconceivable future. Therefore, these Finals are not a culmination point, instead they initiate what is to come: the beginning of the artistic lives of these beautiful artists. For us the Finals are about playing and experimenting in order to be able to move on.

We at BEAR care for the world and each other. We work on building our own mind-boggling positions in society, rather than trying to fit in the existing ones. We create with love.

So, we welcome you into our love story as it continues to unfold in unforeseeable and infectious ways.
